Our Management Team ensures the direction and strategy set by our Board of Trustees is implemented effectively for the benefit of the users of our services. Between them they have many years of experience in delivering mental health services, running charitable organisations and working closely with socially excluded groups.
Liz originally trained as a psychiatric nurse at Hollymoor Hospital, Birmingham and has worked in in-patient settings, including acute admissions and rehabilitation services. Before joining Together in 2006, she was Deputy Chief Executive of Rethink, the leading national mental health membership charity.
At Together, her major aim is to shift thinking about mental health services away from something ‘done’ to people with mental health issues and towards a system ’built’ by individuals and their supporters, promoting quality of life, ambition and hope.
Liz is currently Chair of Trustees at the Helplines Partnership, a board member of the Voluntary Sector Mental Health Providers Forum and sits on the NHS Confederation’s Mental Health Network as a representative of the voluntary sector.
Angela Newton, Director of Service User Involvement
For over 17 years Angela has supported the growth and development of a range of service user led groups and projects.
During this time Angela has worked alongside service users to develop a strong collective voice to guide the development, delivery and evaluation of mental health services.
Angela has served as a trustee for Rochdale Borough Wide User Forum, established an award winning service user led training programme and served as the Chair of Interrelate, an international coalition of service user leaders. Angela was also a member of the National Involvement Partnership’s Advisory Group tasked with establishing the 4PI National Service User Involvement Standards. She has worked in partnership with a range of voluntary, statutory and private sector organisations to provide specialist advice and guidance about service user involvement, leadership and peer support. Angela also has a Postgraduate Diploma in Voluntary Sector Management.
Her own lived experience of mental health issues enables her to truly understand the complexities of mental health service user leadership. She firmly believes that people’s lived experience should lead mental health services in every way, and is committed to enabling this to happen through her work at Together.
Linda is a registered Forensic Psychologist and has worked as a practitioner with people with mental health, personality disorder and complex needs since 1992 in settings ranging from medium secure units to assertive outreach in the community.
She has a twenty year history of working in the voluntary and community sector joining Together in 2002 to work as a Forensic Mental Health Practitioner within the criminal justice mental health services in London.
Working in collaboration with a range of partners, Together’s portfolio of criminal justice services has grown, with Linda now leading a specialist directorate as part of the organisation’s executive team.
Linda is a member of a number of national networks and groups including co-Chair of the Bradley Report Group and member of the National Liaison & Diversion Programme Board led by NHS England.
Liam Cole, Head of Human Resources
Liam has over 20 years’ experience in Human Resources having started his career in the Civil Service. Liam first moved into the third sector in 2000, and held various HR roles at leading charities, including Parkinson’s UK and Action for Children, before joining Together in 2004.
Liam is responsible for Together’s HR and Learning and Development functions. As part of this he oversees employee relations, strategic and legislative planning and procedural development. Liam also heads up the management side for the Joint Negotiation and Consultation Committee.
With a background of 15 years in management and development of services for people with mental health problems and learning disabilities, including providing specialist services to people from ethnic minorities, Cashain brings his knowledge and experience of cultural competence, recreational therapy, community sports development and culturally appropriate therapies to Together.
He has worked in the areas of sports development, supported housing and community based mental health services.
Anne Oates, Director of Resources
Anne Oates trained first as a social worker and then moved into accountancy in 1989.
Before joining Together in 2006, she also worked as Director of Finance for two other charities, Rainer and St John Ambulance.
As Together’s Director of Resources, Anne is also our Company Secretary.
Andy is an experienced Senior Manager having worked within Third Sector Mental Health Services for over 16 years, both in the UK and overseas.
During his time at Together he has managed and developed a wide range of services including Registered Care, Supported Accommodation, Recovery houses, Peer-led Services and Floating Support services.
Within the Corporate Management Team Andy’s primary responsibilities currently focus on developing new services including Together’s Clinical and Recovery Focused Accommodation Service for people who have experienced severe mental distress.
